Howdy and welcome. I kinda had to find my own way when it came to guns. I grew up in a family that didn't mess with guns. They were all car people. To me a car is just transportation to and from the gun store, the range, and hunting and fishing spots.
My tastes in guns was greatly influenced mostly by modern writers like John Taffin, Brian Pearce, Mike Venturino, Elmer Keith, but, also by westerns I grew up watching. I gravitated towards leverguns and sixguns early on, and while I tried, and have owned a little bit of everything, those are the guns I prefer.
I always have been interested in cartridges, having read most of several Cartridges of the World books.
I got into reloading and casting about 20 years ago. That added 2 whole new dimensions to the gun hobby. Suddenly my world was opened up to cartridges and guns that I wouldn't have considered before, for which I couldn't have gotten or afforded ammunition.
