How's the military surplus market looking these days? I remember when you could get a Mosin for less than $100 and stock up on surplus ammo without worrying. Now it feels like everything is either running low or priced like it's a rare collectible. Are there still some good deals out there if you know where to search, or have most of the great imports already been picked over? Is it still worth it?

I was a dealer way back when. You could get 10 unissued sks rifles with accessories delivered for $690. We sold them for $79! Bought M-1 rifles thru the DCM for 165$. Those days are long gone, even on the chi-coms and Russian guns. I think the cheapest I have seen at a show for the sks last month was $450 and NO haggling.
IMHO the glory days are gone.

I had a similar experience at the last show I attended. What used to be seen as bargain-bin rifles are now treated like they’re rare treasures. The sellers are fully aware of the demand, and honestly, they’re not wrong. I understand that times change… but it really makes you long for the days when you could pick up a few for next to nothing. The “glory days” may be behind us, but the stories we have definitely make the current market a lot easier to laugh at.

Twas a time the SKS’s and AK’s were dirt cheap and so was ammo-no more for either. Only buy milsurp if it’s something you really want because neither the piece nor the ammo will be cheap these days
