I have had a couple of good squirrel hunts this year so far. Squirrels are spread out and difficult to locate but when a good tree is found, with a little patience and a steady rest, it can be productive.
I prefer to use a Benjamin Marauder air rifle for certain areas and/or certain conditions. Very quiet thus it doesn't scare off the other squirrels after shooting one down from a tree. Also used are Trigger Sticks for a steady rest. Very adjustable especially for hillsides.
With some modifications to the Dean Torges style tree seat I fabricated this year, the Trigger Sticks are working out well. Still need to disassemble them, clean and lubricate them. That too, is on my to-do list.
So indeed, still some things to accomplish for this year's hunting season. I’m way behind schedule.
